OUR STORY

Owners Hass & Dalia Makki opened Sweet 220 Pastries & Specialty Cakes in August of 2009.  Hass is a graduate of The French Culinary Institute in Manhattan and completed his internship at Master Pastry Chef & Dean of Pastry Arts Jacques Torres’s Chocolates in Brooklyn. Both, Michigan natives, Hass and Dalia spent over 5 years working for several luxury hotel properties across the United States. These include The Ritz Carlton Dearborn (now known as The Henry Hotel), The JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa and The Phoenician Scottsdale. They also spent six months on a Ritz-Carlton New Orleans task force, helping the hotel reopen after Hurricane Katrina.

When they made the decision to head back home Hass landed himself the position of  pastry chef at the MGM Grand Detroit.  As the economy in the U.S. worsened, corporations started to cut down on jobs and Chef Hass was laid off as a result.  With limited opportunities in his field, and since both Hass and Dalia decided to stay in Michigan, Dalia suggested a home-based specialty cake business.  They began creating their awesome products for close friends and family. Within weeks, the word got out and they had numerous orders placed on a daily basis.

After one full year of making cakes out of their home, and building a clientele,  Hass and Dalia decided to open up their own dream pastry shop.

With their delicious tasting cakes and pastries, excellent customer service and positive attitudes they have built a successful business that is progressing and growing each day. Having won runner up in WDIV’s Vote 4 The Best Contest under the category “Best Cakes”, goes to show their level of determination, their quality of work and their business mindset.
